MacBook Pro 2017 - screen issue

Hi guys. I have a problem with the screen of my MBP 2017.

If the screen is half open I can see perfectly but if I open it completely it fails and the colors change and is not possible to work with it.

So clearly is not a screen issue. is a bad connection.

Went to the shop and they've asked me for 600€ to change the screen. It was the only option they've offered.

I didn't accept. Its not reasonable.

Any suggestions to fix it?

Thanks,

Pedro Silva (PT)

Sir I purchased it on June 2017 this thing happens for me just after 3 yr. If I have the extended warranty then also it does not cover. In you forum hundreds of people facing the same problem within 1.5-2 year. Moreover Apple giving replacement of 2016 models for same issue. If apple is not liable then why they are giving the replacement of those laptops? Its really astonishing that 2016 & 2017 models have absolutely same structural issue, then why they are giving replacement of only 2016 models?

Sir with due respect is it really acceptable from a apple product? People buy Apple product for reliability & great built quality. Is this the level of reliability? I am using 2011 macbook pro & still its working fine. but how a 2017 MBP having so much problem like an ordinary computer? even the rubber around screen start melting. Do you feel its our fault to believe apple product is a extraordinary product?

You are absolutely right that any company having 1 year warranty for their specific product. But can you tell me why people purchase a premium laptop of around 3000$ in spite of 1000$ normal laptop. Then why this term "Premium product" is used for apple product?

I have the same problem and to make matters worse I had the screen replaced just out of warranty and the new screen is starting to fail again. Ifixit has proven the issue is with the cable length of the two cables connecting the screen which are glued into the screen assembly and making it impossible to repair just the cables when they fail. They have admitted that the 13" model has this problem but won't admit that the 2016/2017 models should also be recalled. In 2018 the cable length was increased by 2mm and so the problem was fixed but they won't admit the problem exists on the 15" models of that year.

I too have the same problem, when you start the laptop there is no issue after 2 hr of running there is some horizontal black lines at the bottom of the screen, after few days you will face stage light issue (uneven down light bottom of the screen) after few days. & then you will face total screen failure if you stretch the screen more than 90 degree. I called up apple service centre . Apple giving free replacement of macbook pro mid 2016 model for same problem, but inspite having same screen, same flex cable problem they are denying for mid 2017 models. its a Flexigate problem, you can found so many videos in youtube. Most of the macbook users of 2016, 2017 models facing same problem. Apple service centre also knows the fact, they also feel embarrassed to say that we have to change whole upper section with display which is cost more than 700$ for a only 8$ flex cable. actually the flex cable is present under the hinge. when you open & close the laptop it gets damaged. Apple should seriously look the matter. A 3000$ laptop having such a manufacturing defect is not acceptable.

Commercial products, their warranties, and their extended warranties work in a predictable way.

Warrant-able implies, but does not guarantee, High Quality:

Commercial product makers build high quality products. You can tell because the manufacturer is willing to stand by their products and repair or replace them for defects caused by materials or workmanship (but NOT abuse) at manufacturers expense for a stated warranty period.

For Apple Macs in most countries, that period is one year. That is the total responsibility Apple or any manufacturer has to you under law. Assumptions about additional responsibility of Apple or any other commercial product-maker's products working longer than the warranty period are not accurate. The amount you paid for the product has no bearing on this. The rules are the same for a car costing US$20,000 or more.

Extended warranty:

Some manufacturers offer extended warranties, also known as service contracts. For a modest pre-payment, the manufacturer agrees to service their product for an additional period of time -- to repair or replace defects in Materials or Workmanship for an additional period. Some users will have No claims during this period. This "insurance effect" allows the manufacturer to keep the price of this service contract relatively low. You generally can not sign up later, because then only owners with problems would sign up, after they discovered an issue.

If you made the decision to NOT pay for the extended warranty, you made a decision to bear the cost of repairs during the extended warranty period yourself.

The MacBook Pro is a lightweight, portable computer that runs on batteries. Being portable, it can easily be subjected to multi-G forces daily, just by being moved about in a completely ordinary way. This is extremely stressful to electro-mechanical equipment. I would never even think about NOT purchasing the extended warranty coverage for such a portable device.
