Shift key not working

Since this morning, my left shift key is not working anymore (the right one does).

I have tried all the steps mentioned in a previous post (checking keyboard settings, ensuring I am using the correct keyboard, etc) however none of them worked.

Could it be a physical key problem (although I have not spilt anything and the computer has been in the same place and untouched since yesterday when it was working fine)?

If so, what can I do?

In System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources, enable 'Show Input menu in menu bar'.

Select Show Keyboard Viewer from the Input Menu in the menu bar. Test the keyboard.

Note: Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility. And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed.
