Background app refresh notworking

Hello,

I am facing a serious problem with my iPhone 6 running iOS 12.4.7

Since two weeks ago, my iPhone suddenly stopped receiving app notification such as WhatsApp, Viber, Messenger, Outlook, Gmail and other apps !

I don't get messages unless I open the app to discover the new messages received !! It means that when someone sends me a message on these apps, those messages don't get delivered until I open the App !!

All setings are right, Background refresh is on, notifications as well !

Can you help me please with this problem ?

iPhone 6, iOS 12

You seem to have covered the basics. When the phone is locked cellular data must be enabled to receive notifications, because Wi-Fi is off. The first time you use an app it sends a message to the notification server to say “I’m here”; this causes an exchange of security certificates and device/app identifications. Normally this only has to happen once, but rarely this gets lost, so deleting and reinstalling the app should fix that (you do need to restart the phone between deleting and reinstalling). However, as it appears to be all applications there is something else going on.

  • Expired certificates will cause the notification service to fail. So if you haven’t updated yet update your phone to 12.4.7, which will refresh certificates on the phone
  • Do you use a VPN? This can hide the identity of your phone, which will also block notifications.

Thank you for the response.

I went through the conversation already. it's not only the notifications, it's even call through Viber, Skype or fb messenger.

nothing goes through unless I open the app to find missed calls. it seems that it happened for me and the OP at the same time frame which led me to believe that Apple has something to do with it. otherwise it's a very strange coincidence.

I agree with you through this hypothesis that Apple is pushing us for newer products.

Today a new iOS version has been released 12.4.8, I upgraded my iPhone and the problem is still present ! I still don’t get any message or call unless I open the App to discover them, I am tired of opening apps every single minute to check new incoming messages ! Waiting for Apple to solve this problem for us
