Playing music from iPod touch through external bluetooth speaker

I have an external bluetooth speaker which I have had for years and never had a problem with. Recently when I try to play music through it from my iPod touch, the sound is really quiet. I don't think it is an issue with the speaker as I can play music from my iPhone & iPad through it loudly. I've checked there's no limit on the volume on my iPod. I can't seem to figure out how to fix this. Can anyone help?

It might sound obvious, but have you checked the volume output of the ipod?

With some Bluetooth speakers the volume control on the speaker also affects the volume control on the iPod. However, other Bluetooth speakers affect only their own volume, which means that if the iPod's volume is down, the speaker will not change it.

If that isn't the cause, try un-pairing the iPod and speaker and then re-pairing them. This in effect sets the two up as a new connection.
