I'm probably being slightly dumb here but is there a way to move all photos onto a USB drive?
I'm having a bit trouble and not seeing the fast way to do it. Currently moving the photos one by one and in stacks of 9.

Depending on how many photos you have in your library, you may not want to copy them all at once, but you should be able to copy them in batches a lot larger than one-by-one or stacks of nine. I also suggest that rather than move them, you should copy them and verify the copies before deleting the originals.
Select a bunch of photos (click on the first, then shift-click on the last), then use the Export or Export Original command in the File menu.
If that is what you are doing already, please let us know what problems you are seeing.

If the memory stick is formatted FAT-32 you should export to a folder on the memory stick. FAT-32 volumes have a limit to the number of files it will allow in its root directory so a folder of files would be counted only as one item and you will be able to add files until you reach the capacity of the stick.
There is no copying involved.
You export them
File -> Export
and choose the setting your prefer. Then simply choose the USB as a destination.
