Importing text that reflects text updates in Word

So I import my text in InDesign from a doc file, fine.

Is it possible to link that text file so if a change is made to the text in Word it will automatically update when triggered in InDesign, just like an image is updated?

The Adobe help page describes and Edit>Place and LInk command, but that does not exist in my Mac version of InDesign.

It only seems logical to keep a text document linked.
