Bulging Bottom on MacBookPro

My 15" MacBookPro(late 2018 with touchbar-2.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7) just started to bulge in the bottom.. I use the laptop 98% at home on a flat surface.. I can barely type and need to place cardboard under MBP in order for it to stay stable.. Any suggestions on what is happening?

Your battery is expanding and needs to be replaced. The expanding battery may damage your computer components. You should take it to an authorized service place ASAP. It may be covered by warranty.

I have a 2017 MBP with exactly the same problem (not as severe and not appearing to be getting worse). I called Apple support and was told they were shipping me a box for shipment of the laptop for repair (I have a case number). Some weeks later I’m still waiting for that box to arrive. It’s not clear the repair centers are actually functional at the moment. There’s an Apple store in my town where I’d normally just take it but they are closed at the moment. Apple really should be doing better in this regard.
