I am trying to recover an old version of a file.
when I run time machine, it does not shows an interactive timeline. it is frozen in today (now) and nothing moves.
Can anybody help!!

Try the following:
1 - hold down the Option key and select "Browse Other Backup Discs…" from the TM menu.
2 - select the same TM drive that you always use.
3 - see if you can go back in time now.
Perhaps starting with Spotlight will help.

Same outcome. Neither, the timeline or the arrows move anything.
Time Machine is stuck in today (now). it seems as nothing has happened in the past.
I used TM some time ago and it was functional. not frozen like now.
It is very estrange. maybe an updated went wrong??

I need to access a file from 2 days ago
Launch Disk Utility and run First Aid on the TM drive. It will take much longer than on a regular drive due to the complex ecosystem of file permissions and hard links. Patience is definitely a virtue in this endeavor.
