Greetings Murray Cater,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like contacts are mixed between your iPhone and your wife's iPhone, and it seems you're curious if disabling iCloud Contacts will help fix the issue.

Sharing contacts isn't a feature of Family Sharing. iCloud Contacts is associated with your own Apple ID, and allows for your contacts to be available on your other devices automatically when the feature is enabled. You can read more about the features of Family Sharing, and about iCloud Contacts, from the following articles:

Since contacts are mixed between your iPhone and your wife's iPhone, it sounds like you may be sharing an Apple ID or mail account. Check out the information within the following article for using your own Apple ID: Use your own Apple ID for Family Sharing - Apple Support

To see if contacts are associated with a mail account that may be on both of your devices, tap Settings > Passwords & Accounts, then tap an account to see if Contacts is enabled. From there, you can disable Contacts or remove the account: Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Kind regards.
