attachments embedding when I don't want them to!

Help! When I try to attach jpg photos to my emails it embeds them in the body of the email and the receiver can't open or see the image. I want them to be sent as an actual attachment.

All I currently do is click on the paperclip and select my document to attach and it gets dropped straight into the body of the text.

The work around I ended up with was saving the images into a word document and sending that. Not something I want to do every time!

thanks!

Hi frankiejean,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you are attaching photos to your email messages, but the receiver is unable to open or see the image. Let's work together and see how we can help out.

When it comes to attaching photos in an email message via Mail on macOS, what you are describing is expected. When you attach a photo, it would appear in the body of the message itself: Add attachments to emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support. You might want to try sending the attachment via Mail Drop to see if that helps the receiver with viewing it.

As quoted from the article above, "If a recipient uses Mail in OS X 10.10 or later, the attachments are included in your message. For other recipients, your message includes links for downloading the attachments, and their expiration date." If the receiver is a Windows user, try the steps in the section titled, 'Send email attachments to Windows users' in that article above.

Let us know how this goes. Regards.

frankiejean,

Thanks for your reply.

To answer your question with the most specific information about Mail Drop, please see the section titled, 'Send large attachments using Mail Drop', in this support article: Add attachments to emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support.

As mentioned, what you've described with the attachments appearing directly in the body of the email message itself, is expected. What is not expected, is for the receiver to not be able to view the attachment. We have a few more questions to help with this specific issue.

-Does this happen when sending attachments to other Mac users, Windows users, or both? If the issue only happens when sending attachments to Windows users, please see the section titled, 'Send email attachments to Windows users', in the above article.

-If you were to send that same email message, with the same attachment, to yourself, or another personal email account you own, are you able to view the attachment without issue?

-As quoted from the article shared above, "By default, Mail inserts images at their actual size. If different sizes are available, you can choose one from the pop-up menu located on the right side of the message header." If you were to choose a different size, if available, does that help the receiver view the attachment without issue?

We look forward to hearing back from you.
