Family Sharing - Payment method query

Hi all,

I have the Family Sharing account setup for my daughters iPhone and currently the payment method is setup to use my mobile operator to charge for purchases or apps and in-game purchases etc.

This works, however the problem is the payments total up over the month then I get my mobile phone bill which includes all her purchases. This can be a significant increase to the expected amount.

Now if I could set up her phone such that my bank account of debit card was used, the transactions would show up straight away. I can add Apple Pay as a payment option, however it seems like I need to add my debit card to her phone which I'm reluctant to do.

Is there a way to set up her account such that my bank account/debit card is used without adding Apple Pay?

I basically want to add Apple Pay but just as a link to my Apple Pay details. Hopefully that makes sense.

Hi Mitch.

Thanks for following up and clarifying. It looks like you are currently being billed from your cellular carrier for your daughter's purchases. Per Availability of mobile phone billing as an Apple ID payment method, "If you're using Family Sharing, only the family organizer can update the payment information. Learn more about payment information and Family Sharing."

"Manage payment methods that family members use

When you set up Family Sharing and turn on purchase sharing, one adult in the family—the family organizer—controls a single shared payment method for everyone in the family group. Learn more about family purchases and payments.

If you're the family organizer, you can add multiple payment methods to your own Apple ID, but your family members can use only the first payment method in the list. If a family member can't make a purchase, the family organizer can move a different payment method to the top of the list."

Change, add, or remove Apple ID payment methods

Hello Mitch.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We see that you would like to know if it is possible to utilize a bank debit card for just your daughters transactions. Unfortunately, this is not possible. Any time a family member makes a new purchase, it's billed directly to the family organizer's account.

Hi raine_b22,

I think you've misunderstood. I want all the transactions to go through my Apple Pay or Debit Card without adding it to my daughters phone.

Basically my daughter would be able to purchase after I've authorised by using the payment method on my iPhone rather than having to add to her phone.

Surely this is possible?
