i have an Imac G3 that i think was subjected to a Power surge because the tiny 3.3v LED on the logic board doesnt turn on and there is clicking coming from the Down Converter Board.....its not the only device thats failed because a Dell and a Mitsubishi PC in the same room also stopped working with PSU issues
Whether it's because of the surge or the fact that the last slot-loading G3 is almost 20 years old now, it's possible that the P-A-V board has finally failed, which can occur without warning. Unfortunately, that repair is often a good reason to retire and e-cycle the computer, because any part that you'd attempt to install would be used and already subjected to an unknown amount of heat-related damage.
A G3 iMac has a PMU, not an SMC, and cannot be reset from the keyboard.
Open the RAM door on the bottom of the case and find the PMU button near the RAM modules:
Press and immediately RELEASE the button. DO NOT HOLD IT DOWN! Pressing it longer than about a half-second will render the computer unusable.

i have allready attempted the SMC reset and the Down converter clicks softly also the 3.3v LED on the logic board doesnt light
the last thing im doing is tossing out my G3 i couldnt care less about how difficult it is to repair because its a beloved system so junking it is NOT an option
