Cloning external hard drive to ssd

Hello everyone!

I can't seem to find any information on this. A couple years ago I used the time machine backup to back up my info. My current hard drive is dying and I would like to use the disk image I created before on the external hard drive to the ssd. How can I do this? I have any current documents I want to keep already backed up, so no worries there
