iTunes takes more than 2 minutes to load into view in Windows 10

It has been getting worse over the past months, especially since the Windows 2004 update (May 2020). It opens fine, but it takes FOREVER to finally appear on the screen. Have done all the possible things - uninstall, reinstall iTunes, iTunes for Outlook, iCloud, you name it.

High end PC - high speed internet connection. No crashing of iTunes - just an awful startup time.

Windows 10 will only allow installation from the Microsoft Store, so not doing a direct download/install.

iTunes version 12.10.7.3.

I have yet to see a solution anywhere about this.

Can someone help?

That's not the case.

I used the Looking for other versions? option on the following page; https://www.apple.com/itunes/ to install the version directly from Apple. The link is in tiny lettering, down past the "get it from Microsoft" section.

However, there may be little point in uninstalling the Microsoft copy in favour of the Apple one, because in my experience, the issue is that iTunes is busy "making your purchases available". The telltale sign is the icon in the top right of the iTunes window after iTunes opens:

I have been able (once or twice) to click on View/Show Activity Window while that is displayed, only to get this gem:

I have a total of fourteen songs that I've "purchased" from the iTunes Store (eleven of them were unsolicited) and yet every time I start iTunes, I get this nonsense, which can freeze my iTunes for up to two minutes. It happens on both my Windows 7 machine and my Windows 10 laptop.

I can hazard a guess as to why this is happening, but from a customer point of view, it's a clear failure to put the customer first: "iTunes is busy, so you (the customer) will just have to wait". It's unbelievably irritating when I have to wait for iTunes when I need to check something so that I can respond to posts here in this forum.

The biggest joke though, is when this happens:

I think you've missed my point.

You can get a copy of iTunes from Apple - I've directed you there. It's not a previous version at all - it is the latest version.

But, that's where I got my copy and yet I also have delay when iTunes starts before I can actually make use of it. So I'm just suggesting that even if you go to the trouble of changing from the Microsoft source of iTunes to the Apple source, I suspect it will make no difference to your problem.

You are however, at perfect liberty to try.

If you do and it makes a difference, I would like to hear about it.

Update: we have determined that this is NOT an iTunes issue, but rather an issue with Windows 10, build 2004. We don't know what the story is yet. Apple Support remoted into my machine and saw NO issues with the app, settings, version, or anything else on the Apple side. We observed Task Manager and saw nothing out of the ordinary - processes and RAM usage were well within normal parameters. No issues with iTunes Match, sync across devices or iCloud issues.

Another possibility we are examining is the video card software. Nvidia has been wreaking havoc with all kinds of Apple apps.

I will be contacting our beloveds at Microsoft next to see if they will dig into this - or - whether they will play ping pong with me and pass me back to Apple. If they do, it will not go well with Microsoft support, as they will have incurred my wrath - and as an I.T. person, I have no patience for buck passers.

Will keep everyone updated.

Thanks Mr. fiend for taking the time to reply with all of the above information.

The problem with the previous versions download page is just that - it’s previous versions. If I choose the latest version (I have no reason to revert to an earlier version), I am directed to the Microsoft Store. I could care less where I get iTunes to be honest. What I care about is the problem. I have no issues once the app is open. My problem is when I click to start iTunes in Windows - two to three minutes later, iTiunes finally appears on the screen.

THAT is what needs to be fixed for me. It has been like this since clean windows install and then upgrade to the May 2004 edition. Same problem with the laptop - same Windows version and same iTunes version.

Something is holding it up from starting smoothly.

No, I got your point. Go to that site and point me to version 12.10.7.3 of iTunes for standalone download. If you can, THEN I missed your point! :)

No matter what I have done, this issue has not been resolved - and I have done EVERYTHING.

Therefore I am on the phone with them now, since back and forth chatter here is not providing a solution.

If I get an answer from them, I PROMISE I will come back here and post the solution.
