Not receiving voicemail on iPhone 3G post OS 4.0 upgrade

Following the upgrade to OS 4.0 upgrade, voicemail was working fine until Saturday, July 18th. Since then, voicemail messages are being left, however they are not accessible via my iPhone 3G. I installed the OS 4.0.1 upgrade today still not luck. Very frustrating, just another issue since the OS 4.0 upgrade. - Loosing confidence in Apple! ! !

The AT&T store said today that my total lack of Caller ID was a problem with my SIM card. They couldn't explain why it suddenly happened or why this one problem would crop up in isolation. They swapped it out but said I should get a new phone from Apple because of the extreme slowness, the passcode lock situation, etc.

Instead I got to wait 20 minutes just to talk to an employee at the Apple store, then another 30 minutes on "standby" because apparently a regular employee couldn't test or trade out hardware and the Genius appointments were all full. They refused to honor AT&T's recommendation to give me a new phone since mine was less than a year old.

I was at the store nearly 2 hours while someone wiped my phone and created it as a new device, so all my settings were lost, all photos, all app settings, notes, etc. I need to spend a good couple hours setting everything up again but don't have the time right now. They told me the restore would only take "maybe 15 or 20 minutes." After 45 minutes I told them to stop the process because I was now late for another appointment. Back home tonight, it took nearly 4 hours to re-load apps, music, etc.

After trying the Reset Network Setting that didn't work, I tried the Reset All Settings solution to no avail. I called Apple where I was toyed with an inexperienced rep. for 20 mins. When she gave up, she handled me over to a techie whom after 5 mins told me to call ATT to have them reactivate my VVM (visual voice mail). At ATT, Marc, their technician, walked me through the "Reset All Settings" and erasing the ATT profile. And to verify, he sent me a voice mail. And Voila! My VVM is back. I only had to re-record a new outgoing message and reinter my wi-fi password. By the way, if you decide to call ATT, use a different phone other than your iPhone.
Good Luck, people.
PS. After updating the firmware to 4.0.1, has anyone noticed if the phone becomes SLOWER and battery life SHORTER?
