Playing Intellex files on Mac

My wife received CD from a government agency that has video that she has to watch. We have been instructed that we need an Intellex Player to play the video. My understanding is the Intellex is for Windows only. We only have Macs.

How can I play the video? Is there a safe Intellex player for Mac out there somewhere? If not, can I convert the video files to a format that can be played on a Mac?

I am not that technical, and I have not researched this much, but it seems that the files that I need to convert are .IMG files that are on the CD we received. However, from my limited understanding, these are virtual images of the CDs on which the Intellex video were originally recorded, not a video format unto themselves. I tried to convert them using Disk Utility, Images-->Convert , but got the following message: "Operation failed. Image not recognized."

To extent relevant, I would like this to work on an iMac Air of recent vintage (purchased December 2018--I don't know version of top of my head and computer is not near me.)

Any help appreciated. To steal a line (sort of) from the movie Philadelphia, explain it to me like I'm a 12-year-old.

Regards,

Dan
