Updating OS to Mojave or Catalina losing old movies?

HI, I heard that your old home movies from iMovie and maybe Movie will no longer work with Mojave, so I've resisted upgrading from High Sierra. Is this true, and what type of file do they need to be transfer to which will work with Catalina?

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Mojave is fine. There will be no problems with older, legacy, media and you won't lose your movies.


Catalina, however, does not support 32 bit apps and certain older, legacy, formats. Take a look at this link for more info re legacy media:

Safest upgrade bet at this point in time is to upgrade to Mojave.
