How do I stay protected using hotel WiFi on my iPhone

I am staying in a hotel and I have to use the hotel WiFi cause I don’t have good service. I had message pop up saying it is unsecured WiFi and I don’t want to get hold of my important information.

If your network connections are using secure transports, they’re fine.

This includes (for instance) TLS-protected email connections, and HTTPS-protected browser network connections.

You really don’t want to have non-TLS connections anywhere.

If you’re using and connecting to your own private network, then configuring a VPN server on that network would be typical.

I don’t recommend using a commercial add-on VPN, as various of those have reportedly misrepresented their logging.

Hey there OJ91,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you have some concerns about using an unsecured Wi-Fi network. We’ll be happy to help.

If you’re on an unsecured network, it’s possible for anyone to join the network, “access any shared resource on your network, and read any traffic you send over the network. Using an unsecured network is not recommended.” You can read more about this here:

Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

If you don’t want to use this network, disconnect from it in Settings > Wi-Fi and use your cellular network.

We hope this helps.

Take care.
