External mic not working in iPhone 7 Plus

Hi. I have an iPhone 7 Plus, good condition, no other problems. The phone mic itself works fine, but when I try to attach an external mic, I get nothing. No sound at all, and the mic doesn't show up in my film-making app Filmic Pro, which I assume it should? I'm using a Rode Videomic Pro Plus (brand new) attached to the iPhone via the correct cables - Rode SC4 to TRS to Apple-branded Lightning. Any thoughts on how I can address this issue? Hello Antroman and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It appears you are having some difficulty connecting and external mix to an iPhone 7 using an Apple-branded 3.8mm-to-Lightning adapter.

The issue is that the Rode mic outputs to a TRS connector. In order to connect to an iPhone, the connection needs to be TRRS and this is also true when using the adapter to convert from 3.8mm to Lightning. If you search for "TRS to TRRS adapter" you'll find a bunch of options including one made by Rode.
