Macbook Air External Display Not Working.

Hey guys, I have a 2017 Macbook Air and i just bought a 24'' Hp Monitor. When i try to connect it to the monitor via thunderbolt 2 to hdmi cable which is also new i get a blank screen. My laptop detects the monitor/tv it's connected to but it displays nothing. Laptop is running the latest mac os Catalina 10.15.6. I have tried everything from SMC reset to reinstalling mac os but nothing worked.

Perhaps the matter may require a different adapter or cable

with correct plugs to match the ports on both ends?

The build model & vintage of your MacBook Air could require

better identification to match suitable cable adapter + display.

(Above article shows slightly different info depending on macOS.)

Maybe if both MacBook/Air build models of similar configuration

only have one issue in common, and the external display shows

evidence ~ you may need again try SMC reset, and NVRAM reset.

And then schedule Authorized service to have the unit repaired.

• Mac Repair - Official Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/mac/repair/service

• Apple Repair and Repair Status Check - Official Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/repair

Depending on your location, the Apple service center could send

a shipping carton, to return macbook for repair; & back when done.

Good luck & happy computing!🍀🌤

The instructions in this 'reinstall from macOS recovery' also has an Erase

instruction before re-installing; then it comes as download from Internet.

(Otherwise, the special partition on your Mac's drive, retains a macOS.)

• How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

• How to erase a disk for Mac - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208496

Once erased and as part of re-install, the Drive requires a Reformat.

Those instructions (and then some) are included in above link. Be

sure to exit or quit the Disk Utility, before attempting the re-install.

Backups on separate drives (and Time Machine, on its own HDD)

are always recommended; as these should help recover lost files

& to fully re-install your Mac. Even if you wipe entire main drive.

Good luck & happy trails!☀️🌎
