iPod Classic Reset

My iPod classic ran out of charge. When I tried to recharge it showed a do not disconnect message on screen. On the iTunes account page it showed that my iPod was in recovery mode and that it required to be reset to original settings but it warned that all stored data would be lost.

Does this mean that the reset could be done which would clear out the content on my iPod but could then re sync iPod with my iTunes account.

Yes, restoring the device will reset it back to factory state removing any media currently on it. Not a problem if everything is in an iTunes library as you can simply copy it to the device again. If you don't have the media in your library see Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community. The first section describes media recovery options. You might also want to review the health of the hard drive.
