Is the iphone dead?

Hi, I have an old iphone given to me when my son upgraded. He removed all data so there is nothing on there except the OS. I think it's a v5, not sure.

It kept needing to be charged, and we thought the cable might be a loose fit, and got it up to 100% by putting something under the cable to angle it. One day later, the screen is black, and I have tried the reboot 2 button hold down, tried another cable, cleaned the connection and all I get now is an occasional battery outline with a red bar on the far left.

It's been plugged into my iMac for over an hour now and the battery icon seems to not come up anymore.

Is this now dead?

Will getting a new battery put in by Apple fix it or is it a toss in the bin situation.

I need to have a phone working as NBN drops out in my area and then I have no phone for emergencies.

Any ideas welcome.

cheers Shaz

If the phone was having problems before, they may return but if the problems were due to a poor power source, they may not return. Hard to say. If an iOS update is available, they should be able to do it at that time. If an Apple Store is not open, try to find an Apple authorized service center that might be open. Good luck with this.

Thanks.

When they replace a battery does it mean it has a full life again without any problems or do any problems using an old phone still travel with the phone?

Also are they able to upgrade the OS at the same time?

Do Apple charge for an evaluation?

Not sure if the Apple store in Melbourne Australia will allow people as we are in lockdown for another 5 weeks as the Covid situation blew up last week.. and we are back to where we were months ago. :[
