how do I stop getting the email on my ipad and still get the email on my iPhone?

Email accounts are set-up independently on each of your devices. Deletion or addition of an account will only affect the device upon which the change is made.
If you wish to delete your email account from your iPad, it can be removed from here:
Settings > Passwords & Accounts > [Your email account] > Delete Account
