The operation can’t be completed because the disk is full.

I'm trying to move files from an external hard drive to my iMac's HD. It tells me "The operation can’t be completed because the disk is full."

I'm running Catalina 10.15.5

According it appears that I have 90GB free. I've tried moving a single small file and it won't let me. I have also tested and the external can copy to my macbook pro just fine running the same OS version.

Re-index the Macintosh HD

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716

follow the steps in the article but add the MacHD for a Minute in the list and remove it.

Close every running App and try typing something in Spotlight on the top left corner. You will see a process.

Reboot and test again.

Another option is to check the external and internal volumes using Disk Utility.

didn't work. This just removed the MacHD from the finder window. I'm not able to remove it from the spotlight privacy tab as it doesn't show there.

I ran disk utility and it appeared to help briefly but then the issue came back.

How I'm getting the following error on the Macintosh HD - Data item in Disk Utility

error: directory valence check: directory (oid 0x301511771): nchildren (10) does that match the drec count (11)
