Pioneer BDR-XD05B - on Mac OS 10.15.5 (Catalina)

Hi there,

After reading about 'data rot' and longevity of hard drives (my current Time Machine drives is squeaking!) I'm considering using optical drives again for long term data archival (mostly family videos and photos).

There was a post similar to this one back in Jan 2029 and answered by 'dialabrain' that said the Pioneer BDR-XD05B works under Mac OS 10.10 (and earlier). So, essentially I am looking for confirmation that it works also under Mac OS Catalina (10.15.5).

Any additional advice on long-term archival strategies are welcome. Right now I have about 15 years of family pictures/videos in a stack of 1 TB to 3 TB hard drives (lots of redundancy, multiple libraries than need to be consolidated, etc.). The drives are getting old and if they fail I would lose a treasure. I do not like cloud options as the only solution, so I am considering to have 2 archives (one at home, one elsewhere) using 100 GB M-disks or 50GB Blue-ray disks.

Thanks!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15
