Using your iPad whilst connected to its Apple Power Adapter - or leaving your iPad connected whilst not used - will not harm the iPad.

The iPad will optimise its charging strategy - and may, temporarily, limit the maximum charge level to 80-90%. This is designed to extend the lifespan of the battery by reducing battery ageing. When returning to a more usual pattern of charge/discharge, full charge to 100% will be restored.
