I bought my Apple TV 6 yrs ago, now it tells me my apple ID password is incorrect. The password works on my ipad, iPhone, and iMac. How can I connect this old Apple TV?

I bought my Apple TV 6 years ago. I have not used it much lately but it connected fine to my newer tv except it tells me my apple ID password is incorrect. The password works on my ipad, iPhone, and iMac. How can I connect this old Apple TV?

Could it be that two-factor authentication is invoked on an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation)?

If so, then you may be asked to type your password followed by the six-digit verification code directly into the password field. Additionally, the verification code may time out if entering takes too long.

Try this: First enter the characters of your password (do not submit yet), then manually request a new verification code, then append that code to the password (no spaces or other separating characters), and then submit.

I got verification code but it didn’t help. Started Apple TV, my email ID is there, but every password I tried failed with or without codes. Did it twice with verification codes, also. When I first bought the Apple TV, I could plug it in and use it just fine. I miss the simpler times.

Oh, I used a space in the verification code as shown when I received it. Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow w/o a space anywhere.

Thank you. I couldn’t get the TV back to the point where it needed the Apple ID and password to access the Apple TV device. I entered it and the verification code in iTunes on the TV but then everything that came on said that Apple TV was free for a month, then $4.99 a month. I never saw options like the Tom Hanks movie, Greyhound, or other shows that showed up the first day when I didn’t know about a verification code. Not all that important, I can probably give it away to someone more knowledgeable than this 78-year-old.

I take it you are successfully signed in now?

… said that Apple TV was free for a month, then $4.99 a month.

I think that would be a message for the Apple TV+ streaming service, featuring Apple Originals.

It would have a week long free trial period, not a month.

It would have a year free trial, if you purchase a new qualifying Apple device.

Hmm, ‘Greyhound’ is part of Apple TV+, the subscription service mentioned above. You would access that through the Apple TV app.
