Apple ID was AUTOMATICALLY changed on my phone; no sync between devices

Ever since I updated to 13.5.1 I have had issue after issue, after issue:

1) my Apple ID has ALWAYS been my gmail account, all of a sudden, on my phone, my @me account is now set up as my Apple ID

2) when I log into appleid on my MAC, it still shows my @gmail account as my id

3) there is no option to revert back to my @gmail on my phone as the Apple ID (which is what I want)

4) my photos are not syncing between my phone and MAC -- perhaps because of this Apple ID issue (it's only while I was trying to figure out why they weren't syncing that I came to discover the ID had been changed on my phone since this last update)

5) I purchased more iCloud space, which is showing up on my phone, but not via appleid on my MAC (again--no sync between the devices?)

6) my phone is now telling me my storage is full; I'd like to delete the photos from my phone once I can see them on my iCloud account on my MAC

7) my images, links, etc disappeared in my iMessages (I figured that out from other forums--as there was no straightforward answer on this platform)

No one has hours in their day trying to figure out all these technical issues that are created by subpar coding. Every update creates 10 other issues. It's like taking ONE medication for ONE ailment, but that medication causes 10 other side effects, 10 other medications. Get it right the first time. If I functioned like this at work, I'd be fired.

Google Photos never gives me these issues. What am I paying for here?

I was able to access my @me account through my Mac (which I have never done). It seems as if some of my images are on the iCloud account associated with this account. I've never used this as my Apple ID -- I even had to reset the password because I don't think I ever set one up. How this happened -- I don't know -- not sure if it was when I changed my phone, or when I updated software -- but it seems like my phone has been logged into the @me account at different periods through time (according to the pictures I am seeing on the iCloud).

All seems "ok" now -- I need to stay cognizant of the account my phone is linked to, especially after software updates.

Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for your reply.  I followed the aforementioned steps which now have my phone and Mac using the same Apple ID -- this is good! However, (all) my photos are still not accessible on my Mac.  I did a backup on my phone, but the pictures have not appeared on my Mac; less than a quarter of the pictures from my phone are accessible on my Mac even though they are both now on the same Apple ID. I have logged out & logged back in several times.

Is it possible my Apple ID reverted to the @me account much earlier than I noticed it and my images are backed up there?  If so, how do I access the @me (it is no longer under Settings/my name/Name, Phone Numbers, Email -- it disappeared once I changed my Apple ID back to my gmail account (even though my @me and @icloud have ALWAYS been listed there prior to this)?

Any idea why Apple would automatically reset my Apple ID to the @me account when for years it's been my @gmail? And why on one device and not the other?  All of this began with the 13.5.1 update -- which first deleted all my images from my iMessages; once I figured that out, this Apple ID issue began.

Yes, I did. Here are the residual issues:

  1. FaceTime history is gone
  2. my @me and @icloud handle are no longer under Settings/My Name/Name, Phone#, Email (they were always there along with my gmail)
  3. all my pictures from my camera roll do not show up on my Mac

I read your other message--they've been syncing for roughly 2 hours, but most likely did get reset so I will follow the instructions you posted. Thank you.

How can I get my @me and @icloud back?

Hi there nraf217,

Thank you for choosing Apple Support Communities!

It sounds as though on your iPhone you’re seeing a different email address listed as your Apple ID than what you’re seeing on your Mac. You’re in the right place, we’d be glad to assist in seeking a solution.

We understand that you’re looking to change the Apple ID on your iPhone back to the Apple ID that you’re using on your Mac, and that you recently purchased more iCloud storage space on the Apple ID that’s being used on the iPhone.

First, we’d advise downgrading your iCloud storage if you will no longer be using the Apple ID on your iPhone. Below is a resource that can help:

Downgrade your iCloud storage

Next, sign out of the Apple ID that is currently signed into your iPhone. -Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac

With iMessage, if you’re not able to see images or links after noticing being signed into a different Apple ID, checkout this resource on turning on Messages in iCloud. -Keep all your messages in iCloud

To sync photos between your iPhone and your Mac, once they are both using the same Apple ID we’d advise checking out this resource below on iCloud Photos:

Set up and use iCloud Photos

We hope this helps,

Cheers!
