What happens to photos when you upgrade to anew iPhone?

I want to upgrade my iPhone. I want to know what happens to the photos on the phone? I use iCloud -

my phone, Airbook, & iMac are all connected. I know when you delete a photo on one device it's deleted on all connected devices.

If you have iCloud Photos turned on in the old phone, when you turn that same option on in the new phone (using the same Apple ID for iCloud), the photos will automatically sync to it. See: Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

You can use the following procedure to clear the old phone and it will not affect your photos on iCloud or the other devices: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
