I transferred all info from my old I phone 6plus to my new I phone XR but cannot get my text and I messages to work

What happens when you try and activate Messages and FaceTime?

Please review and follow the instructions in this guide by Apple ➔ Set up Messages on your iPhone.

Are you able to make and receive calls? I ask because I wanted to know whether you have active service on your new iPhone XR.

Yes I can make and receive phone calls from new phone

It set up FaceTime ok but not I messages

it says error to activate messages and try again which I did numerous times no luck
