Apple Wireless Keyboard Return Key not Working During Pairing

Good Morning,

I am trying to pair an Apple Wireless Keyboard which was previously paired with my wife's MacBook Air. I am unable to unpair it from that device as it has been sold.

When I try and pair the keyboard to my MacBook Air, the keyboard / MacBook recognises the numerical keys for the code input but the return key does not work when return needs to be pressed to confirm the pairing code.

I have changed the batteries so don't think it could be a power issue.

Is there a way to factory reset the keyboard ? What else can I do to pair the keyboard ?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Hey TheGreyGus,

It sounds like you're having trouble pairing an Apple Wireless Keyboard with your MacBook Air.

Even though the keyboard was never unpaired from the sold MacBook Air, it should still pair with your current MacBook Air. Make sure to follow these steps to pair the device: Set up your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, and trackpad - Apple Support. If you're still unable to pair the device, try these steps under "Your device isn't recognized by your Mac": If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't working with your Mac as expected - Apple Support.

If you're still having trouble, let us know if you're able to connect other Bluetooth devices to your MacBook Air.

Thanks for reaching back out. Take a look at the steps under "Your keyboard has one or more keys that don't respond" here: If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't working with your Mac as expected - Apple Support.

If that doesn't resolve it, see if you can pair in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Hi There,

Thank you for the reply, I can pair an apple mouse with the MacBook. The notebook recognises the keyboard and requests a code to be entered on the keyboard. All the numbers can be entered but the Return (Enter) key does not work to complete pairing.

Please advise

Hello there,

Thank you so much for the reply. I restarted the MacBook in Safe Mode and tried to pair the keyboard. I can enter the numerical code on the keyboard but when I need to confirm the code, the return key does not work in order to confirm the code.

The keyboard is not able to be paired as the return (Enter) key is not working to confirm the code and complete the pairing.

Please assist as the keyboard worked previously.
