Ventura Bluetooth issues.

Why is Apple dragging its feet when addressing the Bluetooth issues created with the Ventura OS 13.0 update? It is impossible to connect my keyboard to my Macbook Pro since the update and all of my mice have a terrible lag as if the buffers get full and then empty out. I can never tell where the pointer will be at any given time because it seldom follows my mouse.

The keyboard and mice work fine on all other Bluetooth enabled devices, but NOT on the one device I have with Ventura. (And, yes, I have done all the troubleshooting. Nothing makes it work properly for more than a few minutes.)

It is sloppy and anti-user to let this bug continue! I left PC's to get away from this kind of shoddy workmanship!

Try the following in order as needed:

1 - Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support (for Intel Macs) and Mac startup key combinations - Apple Support (for both types)

2 - How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

3 - boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Using 2 Apple Computers.

Both are on the Current version of Ventura 13.1 unlike the version the user specifically mentions Ventura OS 13.0

Use the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard ( Rechargeable Battery ) and Apple Mouse ( Rechargeable Battery ) and have zero issues at all.

IOS Ventura & BT Mouse + Keyboard Issues:

First off, DO NOT CALL Apple Support for help. Their advisors have not been trained with the correct “script” to problem solve this. They will just advise you to purchase new mouse and keyboard.

I figured out the problem… after spending HOURS with Apple Support to which ended with a senior advisor “advising” me to just replace my mouse & keyboard, and that I could just go get a “cheap one”…

Instead, look into setting up the Universal Control feature in Ventura.

After much futile attempts to explain to the Senior Apple Advisor that my hardware is not the problem… especially because they work just fine with my brand new iPad Pro, I gave up on Apple Support. I started checking out the new and cool Ventura features on my MacBook Pro and thought maybe, just maybe the Universal Control could’ve caused the BT mouse and keyboard disruption. So, I had the mouse and keyboard connected to iPad Pro, then moved my pointer to the edge of MacBook Pro screen. It picked up on my iPad Pro screen like it’s supposed to. Then I thought, let’s try the mouse now… sure as heck I used the mouse to move pointer from iPad back to MacBook Pro and it WORKED! I started typing on iPad notes app using BT keyboard on iPad, then did the same on MacBook Pro. Now the BT mouse and keyboard devices work on MacBook Pro just like it used to!

However, if you look up your BT settings on your MacBook Pro, the mouse and keyboard will not appear and you still can’t connect them that way… even though they function just fine after I shared them across from my iPad.

Hope that helps!

I just solved my connection problems on my new MacBook Pro M2 (2023), thus altering this reply.

I have a Logitech Craft keyboard

An ergonomic mouse MX Vertical

A Bang & Olufsen headset

The keyboard connected straight away. The MacBook asked to type a 6 digit code on the keyboard.

The MacBook could see the other 2 devices, but would not connect. I had to press the connection key on the devices for several seconds for a succesfull connection. That worked and is perhaps a safety issue.

I have the keyboard connected to my iMac (both mouse and keyboard can connect to 3 devices switching between them).

I use the Logitech USB connection on the iMac rather than the bluetooth. It works faster on startup and there is also a security issue with bluetooth one has to take seriously.

I also have a PC from a big corporate client. Bluetooth is not allowed on their computers due to security issues. They use Logitech mouse and keyboards with the Logitech USB unifier.

My new Macbook doesn't have USB-A, but I will order an adaptor and also the Logitech USB-C unifier.

I don't know what mouse and keyboard you have, but I find Logitechs high-end products far superior to Apples. (I do not work for them nor sell their products).

I've been having issues with my update to Ventura on my iMac. Bluetooth will keep disconnecting and re-connecting every few minutes. While this is happening the Activity Monitor is showing bluetoothd eating up over 200% of the CPU time and the fans start running full steam. I tried all of the suggestions on the web, re-setting the SMC, re-setting the PRAM (or whatever it's called now), deleting every bluetooth prefs file I could find and all the other "try this stuff" Nothing was working.

I usually only have one user account (admin) which I use for everything on the Mac. Just as a test, I made another user account (standard) on my machine and I switched on Fast User Switching so I could easily go between the two. The standard account didn't have any issues with the bluetooth at all! Then the miracle happened, when I switched back to the admin account, no issues with the bluetooth there either!

So if you've tried everything else bluetooth related to try and get yours working, try this and let me know how you get along. This might also work for previous systems, no guarantees. :)
