my old iphone gets all the verification codes instead of the new one.

I got a new iphone. I synced my old one to the new one via placing them next to eachother. All seemed well. I added the same phone number to the new one. I began to log back into apps I had on the new phone and when it sent a verication code to my number, ONLY the old phone recieved the texts. Even after I signed out of iocloud the old device and disabled imessage, it continues to be the only device that receives these codes. i can recieve text messages on the new phone, but these codes ONLY go to the old phone, and switching between them is tedious and confusing. why?

These are codes received as green SMS texts? You’d need to put the old phone’s SIM into the new phone to register that specific device with your cellular service account to get the texts routed correctly.

On the new one, sign out of iCloud, then sign back in. The AppleID 2 factor authentication code will come to the old phone so you can enter it in the new phone. That should then establish the new one as a trusted device for your AppleID. Then, codes will come to both.

And 2FA codes are not sent by text. The default is to send them as encrypted iCloud push notifications to all your trusted devices.

I have followed the steps, but I do not think my problem is solved.

I should specify that i am not talking about apple 2FA codes, more so regular apps like for example Instagram. In the settings of Instagram I can have it send a code to a number. If I do so, the code appears only on the old phone. Why doesn't the code appear on the new phone? It seems to be directly linked to the old device, even when the new phone also has the number and the old device doesn't even have the application. This is the same for other apps.

They were green. I've switched the cards back and forwth twice now, also still getting waitng for verifcation underneath send and recieve in messages for imessage. I also just found out I might have to wait up to 24 hrs for activation.
