why won't screen captures open in preview?

why wont screen captures open?

Just says "will not open" no other explanation...

If you take a screen capture, highlight the file and press Command- i

in the info panel that pops up under Open with what is it set to,

if not already set to Preview change it and press on Change All.

Thanks so much Eau Rouge but I think my problem is much bigger. ow...I can't open or save anything on my computer ...dieu!
