Wifi speeds on macbook pro

My wired internet speed is around 600mbps, whereas wireless is about half of that (350mbps at about 1 foot from the router). My Iphone 10 is capable of reaching 600mbps at the same distance. Is this due to my macbook being older? Do newer macbooks have faster wifi cards? Am i able to upgrade my wifi card if i need to?

Thank you.

Yes.. your laptop from 2012 is N wireless.

Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n

You have not stated the phone's age but it will be AC wireless.. which is next standard and there is already another AX.. so your laptop is 2 generations behind.. as well as a lot of increments in there..

Do newer macbooks have faster wifi cards?

Yes.. not sure when AC came in .. perhaps the next year 2013.

Am i able to upgrade my wifi card if i need to?

Unfortunately the Apple laptops are very much designed by big A to never be upgraded.

Apple use unique sockets which change on different models.. so they are unique in their uniqueness.

Occasionally you can find some replacement or USB wireless stick that is compatible but the cost is so high I would not recommend it. Or having a USB stick hanging out of the unit just is more nuisance than anything.

You spend a pile of cash and something else goes wrong.

Your big advantage is ethernet.. you have ethernet port.. a real one. That is a lot faster than any wireless so far.
