Deleting an image in Photos

If I put a photo in an album, I can't delete the photo from that album I can only 'remove' it from the album. It is still in the photo library.

To delete the image completely, I have to go back to my library of photos and delete it from there. I'm sure I used to be able to make a complete deletion from the album. (I think it may be a change which happened on Catalina)

Is there a way to delete a photo directly in an album, without having to go back to the library.

When you delete photos directly from an album by pressing the Delete key, you only remove them from the album and not your entire photo collection. If you want to delete photos from both the album and your collection, press Command-Delete.

Just an add-on, why the key combination is ⌘⌫ working in Photos 5 on Catalina.

It is a recent change in the Image menu in Catalina. While viewing an album, the "delete" command has been removed from the "Image" menu and the contextual menu and only the "Remove from album" menu entry has been left.

When you hold down the command key ⌘, the "Remove from album" menu entry will be changed to "Delete ... photo" in both the Image menu and the contextual menu.
