editing microsoft word document on iPad Air with Apple pencil

I have been editing articles on my iPad. I would always start by pressing the icon "draw" on the menu bar of the Microsoft Word to start editing the document. But sometimes it would malfunction. So i had to download the Microsoft word document on a desktop computer and email to me so that i could edit it on my Ipad. Is there something wrong with the Apple pencil/Ipad ?
