I’d assume that your data will be (or already is) gone, when the repair or replacement is completed. And the repair here may well involve a swap for a refurbished device.
Apple encourages folks to make backups prior to sending in equipment.

If you have no backup, you’ll want to let Apple know about that, prior to the repair. And again, the data may already be gone.
