Making a folder icon a photo

I used to be able to make a folder on my desktop be an image from my library instead of the blue folder icon. Now every time I attempt to change it by doing;

Copy desired Image> Clicking on folder > Get Info > clicking on top left icon of folder > Edit > Paste

the image is just the "JPEG" photo image. Does anyone know if this is something new I'm not doing correctly? Please help!

Make sure you copy an actual image file rather than copying from the Photos app. If you are copying from the Photos app, drag your desired image to somewhere in Finder and then copy the image from there to replace your folder icon.

Let me know how this goes for you!

What you now need to do is open the image you want to use in the Preview app.

Click Edit> Select All. Click Edit> Copy.

Select the folder you want to change and press Command- i

at the top left of the info panel highlight the folder icon

and press Command- V, this should now paste the image

over the folder icon.

the above instruction should work with recognised image formats like jpeg., png etc.

If you have files with the .icns extension there is a slightly different method.

Command- i on the .icns file you want to use make sure the Preview option is open,

also Command- i on the folder you want to change.

Now simply drag the image of the .icns file from the Preview window to the top

left of the folders info panel.
