Search nearby a location different than my current location in Maps

This is SUCH a basic feature, I have got to believe it exists in Maps and I am just an idiot for not figuring out how to do it:

I know I am going to be in a certain location at some time in the future. I enter that address in Maps and it is located. I now want to search for, say, used bookstores near that location. How do I do it?

Maps seems capable only of doing "search nearby" based on where I am physically located right now.

And just for the record: I already KNOW this can be done easily and intuitively in Google Maps. I am specifically interested in figuring out how to do this in the iOS Maps application.

Hi mjgcae,

It sounds like you need help searching and we can help.

If you locate an address or area and that area is in view, using the search bar will search the area on screen.

I am afraid that doesn't really work.

If I search on my iPhone in Maps for the hotel in another city I know I am going to be staying in next week, the map shows me its location.

If I do as you suggest and from that screen enter a search for, for example, "steak restaurants" I get a map view of the entire United States, with some possible suggested locations grouped around that destination AND my current location.

If I zoom back in on the city I know I am going to be traveling to, I see the suggestions, but there is NO marker of the hotel. I am now just looking at locations in a city I am unfamiliar with, having lost the point of reference to where in the city I know I am going to be,

Google Maps can do this kind of search very easily. I am just really trying to stay within the Apple ecosystem. And what Maps is offering really isn't very useful.
