Apple Maps Defaults to Transit Directions on iPhone

I have checked the Apple Maps preferences/settings and "Driving" is the selected preference on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac. But on my iPhone Apple Maps always defaults to "Transit" directions, on the Mac and iPad it defaults to "Driving". Any ideas how to fix?

I have a 12 Pro Max and I'm on iOS 16.0.

Solution for me: It was the Transit overlay. If you have the transit overlay on (top right of the map) it overrides the selection to be Transit directions. Switch the map/overlay back to driving there.

I looked at transit for subway info and must have forgot to change it back there.

Well, I don't remember how to edit this question, so I'll just respond to myself...

All of the sudden it is now showing me driving directions. The only change I made was, while trying to figure out how to make it work, I changed from driving to walking directions, tested and still got transit, and then back to driving, tested again and it was still showing me transit directions. But just now I opened Apple Maps to look at something else and now it is showing me driving directions. Not sure what happened, but as long as it remains this way... cool.
