can't update iphone 5s in 2020 to ios 12

Hi, I have never chosen to update my iphone 5s past 9.3.5. Now in 2020 I have tried to update to ios 12 and it says that I am using the most up to date ios which is 9.3.5. My question is how do I update my old iphone 5s? Or am I no longer in the year 2020 able to update my phone?

I plan on getting a new phone closer to next year even if I can or can't update my phone. I have too many apps for my job and other businesses that I can't use because I can't update my phone.

Can you give your Model No. of your Device.

I have tried to upgrade using my computer and that is when i get the message that 9.3.5 is the most current version. Also when i look on apple's site i don't see the choice to download ios 12 for iphone. Right now I am having to put my required aps on my moms ipad.
