Apple tv takes control of my receiver

My Apple TV is plugged into a receiver with a couple other things plugged in (ps3, wii, etc) and the receiver is plugged into a single port on my tv. However I’ve discovered it only works with the Apple TV input for some reason. I’m gonna check with sony and vizio (who made the receiver and tv respectively) but i wonder if this is on apple. I tried plugging into other hdmi ports but it only works on whatever input i have it on
