Do I upgrade my MacBookPro v.10.9.5 or is there a 'Numbers' app that does't require v.10.10?
'Numbers' requires v.10.10 or later. My MacBook Pro is v.10.9.5.

That model can run every MacOS available at this writing including BigSur (when released).
As long as you have 6GB of RAM or more, it will run adequately. But you may not be able to update directly from 10.9.5, you may have to install 10.11 El Capitan as a 'waypoint'. El Capitan may be all you need for now, and it brings in the "modern" Mac App Store to allow additional upgrades, if desired.
