i would relaunch the app, delete and save all your photos and restart the app.

don't delete the app, unless you have a a reliable backup you are certain will work.

the reason to remove your photos is one could be hampering the photo app.

photos was always tricky in 2012-17 until recently.

oh a good pram reset sometimes does the trick cmd-shift p r before the restart chime.

as far as old, Im using a 2010 MacBook air to the fullest
