Mac Book Pro 2019 (16 Inch) not recognizing SD card

I have OS 10.15.5 and am trying to use a USB-C to VGA adaptor to connect it to an SD card reader. I wanted to read a Lexar Platinum 2 - 8 GB SD card from my camera and (ofcourse) download some photos. When I plug it in, the OS says that the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer, however, lets me 'initialize..' it.

When I check the system report as well, the USB 3.0 card reader shows me the SD card, but I can not read it.

Scanning through the forum makes me believe that the issue might be something else, any help please?
