i want to get a detachable keyboard for my ipad pro 1st gen 12.9 but the ones apple sells only support other sizes of the 1st gen and latter generations. can i just get any keyboard for the latter generations as long as it’s for 12.9?

Keyboard for the 3/4th Gen 12/9, will not work, due to it being different size and different connectors.
Apple does not sell anything for the 1st gen, you will need to look on amazon for 1/2nd Gen 12.9

Check Amazon for detachable keyboard cases for the 2015/2016 1st AND 2017 2nd gen 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models.
Also, look at Brydge keyboards, keyboards from Logitech OR Zagg Websites
