Just Zoom in:

If it is too small, then you can always just zoom in.

Open a Message and then perform the following:

On your Mac use COMMAND + "=" to zoom in.

I think the problem goes back to eMail was originally meant to be just Text, no size, no bold, etc., etc.

They might be using HTML, but Mail?Preferences>Fonts & Colors, some settings there that may or may not help.
