mac mini 2018 with backup Samsung T5 SSD. After Sleep I get message: "disk did not eject properly. Eject...before disconnecting or turning off."

Apple support hasn't been able to fix this bug since I first contacted them in December 2019 but they did stop the message appearing after a shutdown and reopen. Any ideas for a fix?
