Audio icon in compound clip

When I try to create an audio compound clip, some segments are left out.

Typically these have an audio icon (example attached).

If I double click in this segment, it splits into two parts. If I click

again, the split disappears and so does the audio icon, and I can proceed

to create the compound clip. This does not always work and, often, the system crashes.

What does the audio icon mean? What am I doing when I double click and split the clip twice?

Thanks

You're in the timeline, but which one? A project's?

When you double-click on audio clip, this has the effect of selecting Clip->Expand Audio.

That looks like what is shown at the bottom of your screenshot.

I am a bit surprised by the grey diagonal lines, though.

The only place I am familiar with something like it is in the context of compound clips, but not like this. They mark areas of the compound that are outside the part of it used in the project.

Thanks, Luis.

I already sorted that particular instance and managed to construct the compound clip through the process I described above. I could try to go back but the system would start crashing again and it was a nightmare.

I still would like to know what it means that the icon is an audio, and what happens when you have to double click twice for that icon to disappear.

What is odd is that the audio clips tagged with the audio icon cannot be integrated into a larger compound clip that includes adjacent audio clips. It is only after I double click to separate the track and track container, and then double click again, that the audio icon disappears and that I can integrate this audio clip into the bigger compound audio clip.

Thanks
